Priyadarsini Govind is one of India’s foremost dancer-choreographers and visionary in Bharatanatyam today. She is an artiste known for her mastery over abhinaya, ingenious approach to nritta and choreography that is both traditional and contemporary. She is the director of Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai.

After initial grooming under Smt. Usha, Priyadarsini specialized in abhinaya under 'Padma Bhushan' Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan from the age of nine. Born in a family of musicians, GEETHA GOPAL acquainted with music at the age of eight from her father Late. Gamaka Kalarathna Sri. H. Sheshagiri Rao, a renowned Gamaka and Harikatha Vidwan of Karnataka. After learning devotional songs, light music and Gamaka, she was fascinated by the melody and magic of flute.

She is the disciple of flute maestro of Karnataka, Late. Vidwan Sri B.N. Suresh. She had her initial training from Late. Vidwan Sri B. Shivaramaiah, a close associate of the Great Flute Maestro Padmashree TR. Mahalingam.

She was a recipient of government of Karnataka scholarship, from Sangeetha Nruthya Academy. She has given a number of Concerts/Programmes throughout the country. She has also given concerts in Akashavani & Doordarshan.

Very much interested in social activities, she visits every month ‘Prabhodini Gurukula’ at Hariharapura near Shringeri (Karnataka) for conducting free coaching classes in flute to the students of Gurukula.

She is a nominated member of the Expert Committee of Carnatic Music (Instrumental) Department of Culture, Government of India. She has been felicitated by various organizations and also honoured with the titles of ‘Venugaana Visharade’, ‘Nada Kokila’, & ‘Sangeetha Shri’. She is also a recipient of the Prestigious ‘Arya Bhata’ Award & ‘Naadaprabhu Kempegowda’ Award

She started the journey of music at late 26 and gerw under the tutelage of my guru “Karnataka Kalashri”, “Vainika Brahma” Vidushi Smt A.S.Padma where she supported and taught music right from shadja to where she is. She pursued Vidwat Certification (A State level exam conducted by K.S.E.E.B) in the year 1984 securing IInd rank. She has been teaching for more than 40 years. She has composed Krithis and Keerthana, Swara Jathi in many Ragas and have discovered new Raga called ‘Vijaya Padma’. She is working as a guest lecturer in Keshava College of Dance and Music (lecturer in Carnatic classical veena instrumental).

A Rajachar was born in Bangalore. His Father had been a priest at the Ranganatha Swamy temple on Avenue road. Young Rajachar had taken a fancy to percussion instruments, influenced by his Father, who was also known to play Tabala for the celebrated Ratnavali theatre of Gubbi Veeranna.

Young Rajachar trained under Sri. A Veerabhadrayya, already a respected vidwan in Karnataka during those days. Sri. Rajachar recalled that his first major concert was in Bangalore, around 1945 when he accompanied Vidwan Vaidyanathan who was visiting from Tamil Nadu. He recalled that the famed violinist Tayappa of Bangalore also performed in that concert.

It had not taken long before Sri. Rajachar had established himself as an able accompanist and was featured regularly in concerts in Bangalore. He had also taken up the priesthood at the beautiful Karanji Anjaneya Swamy temple in Basavanagudi.

Sri. Rajachar recalled that his association with my Father Veena Rajarao began sometime in the 1940s and continued well into the late 1970s. Rajachar was very emotional when he recalled many occasions where he accompanied my Father for both Veena and vocal concerts. He recalled that it was not uncommon for many of these concerts to extend into 4 to 5-hour affairs! He was delighted when I showed him some pictures from the good old days and he could not hold back his tears when he saw pictures of himself with my Father and Sri. Ratnagiri Subbashastry (violinist). Sri. Rajachar recalled that he had also accompanied my sister Veena, who had begun public performances as a young girl.
